About SITA
The Agribusiness Market Information System (SITA for its acronym in Albanian) is a collaborative effort of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Consumer Protection and the Albanian Agriculture Competitiveness Program (AAC), an initiative funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
SITA has the main objective of providing the different actors of the agriculture value chains with timely and reliable market information for agricultural products, to reduce market asymmetry and thereby increase the efficiency of agricultural markets in Albania.
As part of this effort, daily price data for major commodities in wholesale markets around Albania are collected; the data is consolidated and analyzed from AAC and then it is made available to farmers, traders, processors and other interested parties in the following formats:
- SMS broadcasting. Through this service, commercial farmers, traders and processors receive daily SMS updates on the prices of commodities of their interest
- Prices per SMS on-demand. This service is available to the general public, it responds to specific requests for prices of commodities in selected wholesale markets. Users send a text message with their request and the response is automatically sent back within 20 seconds.
- Daily email price reports. This is a service provided to an audience mainly constituted by large agribusiness operators, policymakers and private sector conglomerates, who receive daily email reports of commodity prices from wholesale markets around Albania.
- Market briefs. AAC and the Ministry of Agriculture produce and distribute analysis pieces, usually one or two pages long with market news and interpretation of market trends to assist farmers and traders to make sound business decisions.
SITA is continuously evolving with the aim of providing Albanian agribusiness entrepreneurs with the tools they need to increase their level of competitiveness and expand their markets.
